Frank Reed, over at Andy Beal’s Marketing Pilgrim laid out some interesting figures from an Experian Hitwise study this past weekend. The study shows visitor momentum for the top 5 social networking sites over the past year. Facebook visits are up 194% from the same time last year, while Twitter reports an astounding 1170% growth. Overall visitor numbers still favor well knowns Facebook and MySpace. A potential surprise for most marketers might be the inclusion of social site Tagged.com as the number three most visited site.

In an Article from Media Post, top ad buyers per industry are listed in order as (1) Entertainment (2) Travel (3) Automotive (4) B2B (5) Health.
Article author, Jack Loechner notes, “Year-over-year, estimated online advertising spend on the top social network and blogging sites increased 119% to approximately $108 million in August 2009. The share of estimated spend on these sites has also grown, increasing from a 7% share of total online ad spend in August 2008 to a 15% share in August 2009.”
The article points out that Facebook was the number one advertised social site for each of the largest industries. It makes one wonder how the inclusion of Fan Pages and applications are influencing the way customers are reacting to these new ways of marketing and selling.
